Whether it is replacing rotten wood, hand washing shudders, or power washing their gazebo, we specialize in the quality maintenance of our local community. We are very grateful to be given the opportunity to work with The Vistas and wish to continue our support of them and many of our local private communities as we have done for the past 20 years.

While we may not all be Linda King (original NCIS art director) or Lynn Wolverton-Parker (NCIS set decorator), when it comes to interior design we can certainly take a tip or two from their daring and successful color schemes. Combining several shades of orange and gold, with accents of whites, navy blues, and grays, their NCIS set gives off the subtle comical brightness that the show is famous for, yet still holds resonance during the show’s more serious scenes. To transition between the bright hues on different walls, they make use of the dark navy blue columns and walls to make up for the lack of divider walls.

Monica’s apartment from the sitcom Friends is also an excellent blending of hues on the different end of the color spectrum. TV’s most famous purple apartment made excellent use of a color typically thought of as drab and Victorian to instead bring the place to life. The secret to the Friend’s set success is the use of a soft shade of purple with comfortable lighting and decor to give the place an intimate feel with a bold splash.

So whether you opt for a bolder design like from the set of NCIS or a more comfortable one like the Friends’ apartment, remember that their are millions of colors out their to choose from that can all be wonderfully blended using the right techniques.

If your house is older and many fall seasons of leaves debris and a possible hurricane or two have left you wondering about the condition of your gutters, then you may be in need of a gutter replacement. It is always great to keep up on the condition of your house, however, things may not always be as bad as they appear and I will give you a few simple steps to gauge the condition of your gutters. First off, if your gutters are not structurally damaged with kinks and leaks nor are they falling off your house, then they do not need to be replaced. If you are concerned about appearances, a local contractor can guide you in your options to paint, power wash, or do cosmetic work to your current gutters. Second, even if there is a leak, a much more cost effective option is gutter repair, as seen in the pictures below. Finally, if your gutters are legitimately damaged beyond a simple leak repair or clean out, then contact a local contractor to talk about options for replacing your gutters. Remember that gutters are one of the most important features of your roof and you should always go for the highest quality gutters you can obtain.

Power washing is great for keeping an exterior surface clean and looking new, but it is not without its drawbacks. Many times power washing uses commercial chemicals to clean the surface and those chemicals can have negative effects on the environment. Also, many surfaces are too delicate to be pressure washed and can be dented or broken if power washed. This is why MacPaint utilizes hand washing when the situation requires. We determined that hand washing was the best method to clean the copper roof of a beautiful local gazebo situated near a pond after years of mildew, grim, and other “bio-matter” had accumulated around the columns and along the roof. That is why our crew members hand washed the copper roof and other surfaces using a combination of the biodegradable cleaner ‘Simple Green’ and water to ensure and safe washing of the gazebo. The result was a beautiful pond retreat that kept intact the pond ecosystem while giving the man-made oasis a new shine that will leave it looking new for years to come.

Have you just had your countertop refinished or are starting to notice signs of wear on your current one? Well there are plenty of steps you can take now in order to extend the life of your countertop for years to come. Make sure you do a dry wipe of your countertops each day with a soft cloth to remove all dust and dirt that might be laying on there, as any object moving over the small particles may cause frictional etching. Also, make sure to clean up spills as they happen for a multitude of reasons. Spills generally become harder to clean up once they dry. The even more immediate problem, however, is that the porous surface of the countertop will absorb the liquid that is spilled on the countertop leading to permanent staining. When cleaning, make sure to either do a dry wipe or use water and only use chemical cleaners sparingly as over use will fade your countertop. These simple cleaning tips could extend your countertop by years!

As the weather is warming up and flowers bloom, many people look for the opportunity to get to some of that spring cleaning. If you have a painted surface that is looking a little less than ideal, we at MacPaint have a couple of suggestions for you. For stains on your walls or other surfaces, we recommend dipping a rag or sponge into water mixed with a little dishwashing liquid, the milder the better and gently patting the stain, making sure not to rub off any paint. If the stain(s) still persist after that, consider a stronger cleaning agent such as Fantastik or Formula 409. Realize, however, that they have strong solvents in them and can soften the paint surface so be very careful and frugal with such cleaning agents. After you have cleaned the stain, wash out the rag or sponge and clean the surface with fresh water. For larger exterior surfaces consider power washing the area. We will go over a DIY guide to power washing in the next post. Following these steps should keep your painted surfaces looking fresh for the rest of the year and years to come!

Finishing up the refinishing process from the previous two weeks, we finish off the counter top by apply a clear coat once the MultiSpec has dried. The clear coat is sprayed evenly with a spray gun and several layers are applied to give a nice solid finish. Spraying a couple of layers of clear coat also ensures that the finish is smooth as the porous countertop will tend to absorb the first layer in certain spots. Check out the videos below to see the finish results of the finished countertop.
